One of the reasons I became a successful student is because growing up there was a community organization that helped young students like me. I graduated from college and have a career in H.R. TSMP is an organization that helps students achieve their college and/or career dreams. It helps them explore their options and opens their eyes to the possibilities of life. I wholeheartedly support their efforts.
The San Marcos Promise has been invaluable to our Career & Technical Education programs as they have made vital industry connections that have secured hands-on career exposure for our students, as well as funding for projects. One of those endeavors, The Warrior Village Project, is a collaboration between high school students, construction trade industries, and veteran organizations. The San Marcos Promise stepped up as our fiscal sponsor and have been a tremendous pillar of support."
I recently retired from the San Marcos Unified School District after working at Mission Hills High School for 15 years as a School Psychologist. Because SMUSD is a very special place, as is the community in which it resides, I wanted to continue to work with the students of San Marcos in some capacity. After looking at several different foundations, I decided TSMP was most in line with my passion for helping ALL students . By working closely with the district, we are able to create supplemental programs and enrichment experiences across all grade levels. TSMP's ultimate goal is to help students transition successfully into adulthood, whether it's directly into the workforce or continuing on with their education.
The San Marcos Promise (TSMP) does an amazing job of connecting schools and students with businesses and professionals. They eliminate barriers, allowing students to gain hands-on experience, leadership, and real-world career opportunities. TSMP goes above and beyond in all they do. Helping students with finding a job isn't just pointing them to a website with job openings. It is a much more personalized interaction that involves sitting down with students, taking the time to learn about them, and then walking them step-by-step through career exploration, resume writing, mock interviews, networking opportunities, and building the skills necessary to land a job in a field that they actually want to work in. TSMP truly cares about students and does everything they can to see them succeed.
The San Marcos Promise does a great job of preparing and guiding students for a prosperous life after high school. They provide students with career planning assistance, professional development, and exposure to networking events. I can personally attest that TSMP effectively guides and supports students on their educational journeys because I am a former student who received immense resources from TSMP. They provided me with all the tools needed to become a university graduate and a working professional. I now have the amazing privilege of working with them as a partner and helping them guide students on their journey towards success. The San Marcos Promise opened many doors for me, and I'm grateful this organization exists because it has and will impact thousands of more students on their professional journeys.
I became a board member of The San Marcos Promise and donate each month to this organization because of the great impact it has on children and families in our community. They are actively involved in finding ways to help kids prepare for life after school, teaching interview skills, social skills, pushing kids to try their best at whatever they do, and opening the doors to all possibilities for their lives. My values align with everything The San Marcos Promise is about and I feel like we are making a great difference here in San Marcos.
TSMP is an incredible non-profit that isn't afraid to step out of the box and do something new. Their willingness to partner with the community to provide pathways, networking events, and even services for the students of SMUSD is unprecedented. They lead with their students in mind and do everything they can to provide opportunities that are not offered anywhere else. The time I have been able to spend working with and alongside TSMP has been a fantastic experience that's shown me how extensive the benefits of an educational foundation supporting a local school district can be!
The San Marcos Promise has constantly reminded me that my hard work is valued. Before being an Ambassador, I wanted to be more involved in my community. I wanted to give back and learn more about the place I grew up. Ever since becoming an Ambassador, I have been able to meet people that have touched my heart and soul. I have been able to gain insight into my educational and career goals. Without The San Marcos Promise, I don’t know where I would be today. They have impacted my life in ways I never thought I could imagine. The San Marcos Promise reminds me that I can do anything.
As a parent and a community member, The San Marcos Promise has a mission that I strongly support. Their programs help students explore their interests, develop career plans and get started on those paths whether it be assistance with college applications, resume writing and interview skills or internship opportunities. With this foundation, students who start college are more likely to graduate, find satisfying careers, make good financial decisions and ultimately lead happy, satisfying lives. This benefits, not only them, but our schools and community as a whole. These programs reach all students in the San Marcos Unified School District, beginning in elementary school. As a donor and. a volunteer, I see prudent, thoughtful use of funds and a team who is truly committed to the work that they do.
The San Marcos Promise taught me that the adult world is more than being able to send an email and have a good handshake. It is about having your elevator pitch ready, understanding the importance of networking and gaining relevant work experience outside your major. As a first-generation college graduate, navigating college and the professional world was a challenge I wasn’t sure I could take. The San Marcos Promise gave me the tools and support to feel confident when I stepped into my new role in the professional world.
Our partnership with The San Marcos Promise has enhanced the work we do through the Mission Hills High School Counseling Department. With the addition of the high school education coordinators provided by the partnership, we have been able to increase the amount of direct career readiness outreach and real-life financial awareness to better serve our students and their families. Their engaging and professional resources along with their positivity and genuine kindness have been such a joy to work with! We are very grateful for all The San Marcos Promise does for MHHS and our entire San Marcos Community.
