Mission: Understanding the world has never been more important to America's success than it is today, and for our understanding we depend first on our teachers. Teachers with experience abroad gain fresh perspectives on the world, its peoples, and its natural environments. When they return to their classrooms, students benefit from their instructors' time abroad. GEEO is a 501c3 tax exempt non-profit organization that has been created to help and encourage teachers to travel abroad. We hope to serve as a valuable resource to educators who wish to explore the world in order to understand it better.

Just got back from my first trip with GEEO - a 9 day trip to Peru - and couldn't be more impressed. They were super helpful in the lead up to the trip with advice, recommendations and resources for planning our trip. The local guides were incredible, very knowledgeable about the wildlife (lots of birds on the Inca Trail), flowers and history of the area.

The whole trip was well thought out, the internal transfers to and from Cusco were a breeze, and the activities planned for our acclimatizaion day to the pottery and textile cooperatives were very interesting and informative.

The food was great and they did a fantastic job accommodating my vegan diet - even on the four day Inca trail trek.

GEEO deserves 10 stars, not just 5. That’s how much I love this travel group. I have traveled on 4 trips with GEEO and have 2 more booked this summer. GEEO’s trips are to amazing locations with fabulous guides. I’ve met incredible teachers that I’ve remained in contact with and have traveled with again on other trips. The trips are so much fun! The groups are small so you receive personal attention. The admin team is fabulous. They are quick to respond if you have a question and are so helpful. GEEO is the best!

I've taken 2 trips with this company and another one booked. They do a really great job helping teachers explore the world in an economical way. Each trip had a guide to educate us about the area including the history, nature, current events and any other questions we had. Visiting different countries and cultures makes me a better teacher. I bring these experiences into my art room as I teach my students about art from around the world.

This is my second time traveling with GEEO and they once again proved to be amazing in every way! Our trip to Iceland was incredible and our guide went over and above to make sure we saw everything on our bucket lists. Anytime I needed assistance, from a canceled flight to missing luggage, GEEO's customer service was remarkable. They respond immediately and follow up and make traveling a JOY. Boy did I hit the lottery when I Google Searched "Costa Rica trip for teachers" and GEEO came up. What a fantastic organization--I loved everything about it! The 16-day itinerary enabled to see so much of the country, spending 2-3 days in each place, each with its own unique flavor and animals. My favorite spot was Sarapiqui, where we got to stay in glamping tents right smack in the middle of the rainforest, amidst the birds and howler monkeys! We had a great group of 16, and the BEST local guide ever. He was organized, communicative, patient, and enthusiastic---all qualities that the GEEO office staff has as well. There were several teachers in our group who had gone on numerous GEEO trips, and I understand why. Fantastic program!

GEEO is a fantastic organization. I was able to travel and learn about Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. Networking with other educators across the states was an added bonus. Local guides provided their expert skills and knowledge to enrich our visits to temples, historic sites, places of interest, and tours. They have amazing customer service and help solve any issues that I had regarding my trip. We spent time at two different organizations that are teaching skills, providing basic needs, and improving the lives of youth. I am already planning my learning adventure for next summer.

I participated in the Iceland trip, and it was fabulous! The trip was well planned, our guide was excellent, and the country is breathtakingly beautiful! Some of the highlights included whale watching--whales right beside our boat for over an hour, a glacier hike, hikes to the top of waterfalls, watching puffins, and fun with colleagues. GEEO put together an amazing trip that was educational and fun. I'm already looking forward to my next trip with GEEO!

From the moment I booked my trip, it was a wonderful experience. The staff at GEEO was extremely knowledgeable and quick to respond to my questions. Up to date communications about the trip were sent via email-there was enough communication where you felt prepared for the trip and they did not bombard your inbox with unnecessary emails.
Once I arrived on site, the trip was so enjoyable because everything was well planned and the staff at each of our destinations were knowledgeable and friendly. I was so impressed with how organized the trip was and how the GEEO staff took care of everything. It really helped make the trip more enjoyable knowing I didn't have to worry about any of the logistics. I feel like GEEO really hires the best people in your destination to help you have the best trip ever.
Finally, I feel like the cost of the trip was very fair and the money was spent well in the communities we visited. Overall, I am very impressed with GEEO and can't wait to travel with them again!

I've made three fantastic journeys with GEEO: the Balkans; Egypt; and Central Europe. I am signed up for their Sicily trip next spring. I love that GEEO caters to educators as we teachers share common experiences and values, and we all understand the importance of being life-long learners. I've made great friends on all of my trips and have stayed in touch with many them over the years.

My GEEO guides have been superb. They were all very knowledgeable, and they went out their way to look after all of the travelers in their care. On most trips you don't have to do everything with a group, although you'll want to participate in many of the group activities. GEEO guides can help you tailor your travels to meet your interests and needs. In a way, GEEO tours are a bit like cruises; you arrive at a port and have numerous options to see sights with a group or on your own. I've found the transportation between places to be very good and comfortable. It's not fancy, but it's efficient. The hotels we used were simple, comfortable, clean, and well situated in the heart of the places we visited.

I started traveling with GEEO in 2009 and haven't stopped. I have traveled as a high school science teacher and now as a retired teacher to more than 16 countries. I have always found the trips to be great fun and extremely informative, whether bringing information back into the classroom or just expanding my own personal experiences.
Recently I returned from a Retiree Trip to New Zealand. The trip had amazing highlights like the Waitome Glowworm Caves and visiting areas of geothermal activity. The walk to the Mt. Cook glacier was spectacular, especially seeing the icebergs floating in the river. Learning about Maori Culture was an eye opener.
I personally recommend GEEO because you will see and learn things that you probably wouldn't if you traveled on your own.

I took the Central Mexico Trip with GEEO. While the trip was initially going to be canceled, they allowed G Adventures participants to team up with the journey. Luckily, there were four additional educators from different parts of the world. There is a language and understanding between teachers, and it was fascinating how we all reflect on our experiences and how they might positively impact our students when we share them with them upon our return. Some of the demonstrations and knowledge I have gained will continually inform my teaching practice over the next few years.

We took a trip to Ireland August 7 to August 12, 2023. We loved this trip! We wanted to see Ireland, but didn't want to drive a car or go by bus, so we found a small tour group. We really liked the size of our group and that the bus was smaller as well, and felt that it was a little easier to get around on the roads of Ireland because of this. We especially enjoyed the Cliffs of Moher and the Giants Causeway. We met many Irish people and enjoyed conversations with them. We liked the itinerary and the many places we visited.

We had a great time traveling through Ireland with GEEO and with our amazing tour guide, Jamie. The bus transportation went smoothly, the hotels were all clean and conveniently located, and the schedule provided for a good blend of planned excursions and self-determined free time. As we traveled between cities (Dublin, Killarney, Galway, and Belfast), we made plenty of stops to see interesting sights along the way, take in spectacular views, explore small villages and towns, hike through national parks, eat delicious food, taste some Irish whiskey, and learn more about the history and culture of Ireland. We were excited to have the opportunity for the group to go see the "Celtic Steps" show in Killarney, and we loved the sunny weather we had when we visited the Giant's Causeway. It helped that we arrived a couple days early so we had more time to spend in Dublin, where there was so much to see. We enjoyed getting to know our tour group members as well. Overall, a great experience - we will definitely travel with GEEO again in the future!

The accommodations were good, some excellent, the itinerary very organized. Josh and Jesse were very helpful with questions and quick to respond. GEEO trips are reasonably priced which was what first attracted me to them. I also like the smaller number of travelers. I just returned from my second trip with GEEO. The two trips could not have been more different: Jordan a few years ago, and Island Hopping in the Galapagos this June-July. By this second trip I was a retired educator but still had so much in common with my co-travelers. We were all in pursuit of knowledge, culture, adventures, and a good time. As ever the GEEO CEOs (local expert guides) were kind, friendly, helpful, caring, and eager to share their enthusiasm for their own country with us. They are truly ambassadors for their cultures! GEEO always includes the opportunity of supporting a local non-profit concern such as dining locally or visiting a crafts place. The cost of GEEO trips are reasonable for an educator's budget, too, and I like the idea of small numbers of travellers, not like a big tour company. Your experience is so personalized. I LOVE traveling with GEEO- they offer affordable trips to places I want to go, or maybe didn't even know I wanted to go! They take care of all of the 'hard' parts and are always so accessible to answer questions and work with travelers when conflicts and questions arise. They offer great incentives with the sales, discounts for early bookings or referrals. I always learn a lot traveling to the new places, and we visit not only the popular spots everyone knows they want to see, but also unusual, interesting places we didn't realize we want to see. As an educator, traveling with GEEO is like taking a graduate course filled with social studies, art, music, language, cultural and science enrichment every educator can use to inspire students to think outside of the box and want to learn more.

I've had my eye on GEEO trips for the past few years and was finally able to work it into my calendar this past summer. I took my daughter with me for her college graduation gift and we went on the Bangkok to Hanoi trip in June and July. We spent most of our time in Laos and I have to say the trip ended up being one of those trips that I will remember as incredibly rich and filled with memories. The more time that passes, the more I love the trip- that kind! We truly got off the beaten path, and were able to visit places (particularly schools) and villages normal tourists would not. Our lodging was adequate to great- but when you are in a 3rd world country, you don't always have luxurious options. Our guide was phenomenal, and the communication from Jesse at GEEO was superb. We got an authentic taste of S.E. Asian culture, food, travel and climate. I will definitely book with GEEO again.

I have been on 6 (SIX!!!) GEEO trips as an educator. Traveling with teachers is a great plan. Teachers are engaged, outgoing, well-prepared, and curious. In my younger years, I used to like to "build my own adventure" in terms of travel. GEEO is great at creating that same feeling, but letting me off the hook for a lot of that planning. So I get an authentic experience, without all of the hassle of planning it myself. I have always met great people on these trips, and it gives me that feeling of being a backpacker again. HOWEVER, I appreciate traveling with people who are better behaved than your average 20-year old backpacker. We still have fun though :)

There are so many positive reviews on GEEO trips and now that I have been on one to Vietnam/Cambodia, it is easy to understand why. I will keep my review short and sweet: These trips are excellent if you want to learn a lot about the local culture and see many sites. Extroverts will love that there is always someone like-minded to hang out with in the group. Introverts like myself will appreciate the 'free time' and optional activities where they have the freedom to recharge independently if they need to. The cost of the trips may seem high, but I think the price is appropriate given how many different activities are provided and how many region-specific local guides you will encounter in addition to your trip CEO. Also: the convenience and ease of travel is well worth the price. If you are on the fence like I was, I would encourage you to take a risk and take the trip that looks the most interesting. It was an amazing experience, and I know I will be talking about this trip with friends, family, and students for years to come. Thanks GEEO!

By the end of our Egypt Upgraded experiences, each seeming to be a highlight, I nearly forgot about our visit to the Wadi Natrun, St. Macarius Monastery that was truly amazing, on our third day of eleven. It was so peaceful and clean. The monk who guided us through his daily life and history of the complex was genuine and pleasant. He graced us with an ancient song playing cymbals in the chapel of daily prayer. The experience was so unexpected. That's one of the reasons I like GEEO. You encounter the usual, but also the extraordinary.

I just finished my 4th GEEO trip. This time it was to the Galapagos. Before that I went to India, Oman, and "The Stans" with GEEO. Each time, I have been given personal attention before, during, and after the trip by Jesse Weisz, the founder. Connecting with other teachers while exploring the world has enriched my life and the lives of my students and co-workers when I share my journeys formally and informally when back at school.

COVID changed our usual summer plans over the past decade from an international trip to domestic. And while most Americans "cruise" to Alaska, this was not an option this summer. Besides, we prefer small-group travel and avoid hundreds-of-people cruises. This was PERFECT. While it is part of the United States, Alaska is far enough away to "feel international." Affordable. Opportunity to relax and explore with scheduled events and time to adventure on your own. Great knowledgeable guide made for a PERFECT trip.

Morocco was my second trip with GEEO after traveling to Patagonia two years ago. People ask why I travel with GEEO and I simply tell them that there is no way on my own I can see as much as I can with GEEO at the cost they charge. They are organized, professional, the guides are always top notch and Jesse is wonderful to work with.

Specifically the Morocco trip was amazing. We saw the whole country in 15 days. The tour guide was exceptional and the days were packed but not too exhausting. Where else can you go from a major city to a resort on the water to a city in the mountains to the Desert to a Burba village in the Atlas Mountains to a beach resort ending with one of the most cultured cities in the world. We rode a camel, stayed in a Burba Village in the mountains and watch the sunrise 4000 feet in the air in a hot air ballon all in the same week. The fellow teachers were amazing and when a few of us had a difficult time getting back to the states Jesse picked up his phone at 7am on a Saturday morning. This is the main reason I will continue to travel with GEEO.

My friend convinced me to look at GEEO’s 2021 trip to Iceland, and the rest is history. Convinced that it would be postponed because of the pandemic, we were not prepared for how well Iceland responded at the beginning, so they were ready to welcome vaccinated visitors. From day 1, Jesse at GEEO answered every question promptly and gave great advice. When people had technical issues, Jesse was there to help - even entering information when a system just would not cooperate. He kept my group up-to-date on all the COVID-19 requirements. He even partnered with G adventures to make sure they found a way for us to be tested in time to return to the USA.

And when I fell and fractured my kneecap, Jesse immediately set up a private chat for me with him and our CEO from G Adventures to make sure I would be able to complete the tour. How’s that for a stellar experience?

Note: I need to credit two of my fellow travelers for the the second (Kat) and the third (Melyn) pictures.

After a year like the one we've just had, what could be better than exploring a new country with a group of travelers who get it? Iceland was the perfect destination for first-time international travelers as much as for those with decades of travel experience. Everyone speaks English, the hotels are clean and accommodating, and the landscape is stunning. Local GEEO tour guides provide historic, geographical, and cultural commentary as they lead participants to spectacular waterfalls, ice lagoons, geysers, and wildlife (puffins, whales, reindeer). I highly recommend the whale watching if it's optional, and Diamond Beach. Get there early to enjoy the Blue Lagoon and Reykjavik. You won't regret it!

Perhaps the best trip I have ever been on was a recent expedition to Oman and Qatar using GEEO. I joined a small group of teachers for an educational exchange and could not have come away with a better experience. There was a level of planning and attention to detail at GEEO which made the trip truly exceptional. It began with the planning - both nations on the itinerary were unusual choices. Oman is a small nation with one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Over the past 40 years, the nation has been transformed from an isolated backwater into a modern and friendly destination. Perched on the tip of the Arabian Peninsula, it has a varied geography with the second deepest canyon in the world. Its rich historical past ties together the cultural threads of the Middle East and its population is one of the warmest you will meet.
Qatar is the dynamic commercial heart of the Gulf and the city of Doha was dotted with a skyline worthy of the most advanced cities anywhere. Nestled in the urban center were historical markets, breathtaking beaches and some of the finest museums in the Middle East. During the entire time, we were led by competent and caring guides who knew the region like the back of their hand. They put together an itinerary filled with exciting events, from mountain hikes on the region's tallest mountain to desert camping under the stars. While there, we experienced a total Solar eclipse just days away from the New Year, surrounded by nothing other than sand dunes stretching to the horizon. It was the best trip I have ever been on and I cannot thank GEEO enough for their personal touch and masterful planning.

I could never have imagined that I would have the opportunity to learn about the history, culture, and modern issues in Qatar and Oman, ever!. GEEO and QFI made it possible. I can now bring the stories of the people I met and the places I experienced directly to my students, who may never get to visit in person.

While conducting an online search of international teacher summer study tours, I was impressed by the number of offerings on the GEEO website and the affordability of the tours. I decided to join the Peru trip along with a friend. I was impressed with the quality of the guides and their professionalism in getting all of us through the Inca Trail and the depth of what we experienced and learned in the Amazon. Our small group size enhanced the experience. I absolutely loved my group.
The variety of activities provided was well balanced with free time to explore on my own. One of my favorite days was when we visited the craft villages and restaurant supported by GEEO. I have already incorporated some of my experience into my teaching.
I was so impressed with my experience that I got together with two others from the Peru trip for a reunion in the Catskills. We hiked, cooked a Peruvian dinner including pisco sours and decided on our next GEEO adventure. Morocco here we come!!

I've been on 2 GEEO trips as a solo female traveler, and both were fantastic! I went to Central Europe in June 2017 and Peru in July 2018. All of my trip leaders were knowledgeable about the locations I visited. They were available for help/company whenever needed, but they were also fine providing support for travelers who wanted to be more independent. Also, my fellow travelers on both trips were diverse in age and very friendly. I had no trouble meeting new friends as a solo traveler. In fact, before both trips, I met a fellow traveler on the Facebook event page for the trip, and we planned a few days of additional travel together. I'm grateful to GEEO for giving me the opportunity to explore new countries that I wouldn't have had the courage to visit on my own.

I traveled to Greece this summer through GEEO. A wonderful, organized trip with energetic teachers was exactly what was provided. Jesse answered questions ahead of time. Mirjam was a tour leader who was knowledgeable about all of the things we were going to see and do in Greece. She was available 24 hours to us. The hotels were quaint and charming. I enjoyed the small villages we saw more than the big cities. People were very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and fresh! Tomatoes, cucumbers, pita, chicken, swordfish, and gelato! We traveled by mini buses, vans, train, ferries, small boats, and more. I learned a lot about the ruins and history of Greece. Visited so many places in two weeks. I added on days in the beginning and at the end to see and do more activities. I would recommend booking a trip through GEEO.

I travelled with the Armenia & Georgia group, and I'd recommend the trip, particularly for solo travelers! Our tour guides were incredibly knowledgable and friendly, and the hotel accommodations included everything from "nice" to "fantastic." I enjoyed getting to know my fellow travelers, but I also had the luxury of a small group; keep in mind that some of the trips can have 14 or more people. Some of my favorite moments: visiting the genocide museum, Mother Armenia, climbing into St. Gregory's pit, climbing to the Temple of Garni, the Caucasus mountains, Uplistsikhe caves, wine tasting, a cooking class, touring Old Tbilisi! The trips are well planned and highly informative, but I especially appreciated that we occasionally had some down time to either rest or go exploring on our own. I definitely recommend GEEO for world-curious travelers!

I greatly appreciated the visits to the Sisterhood of Survivors Project which helps young women transitions out of human-trafficking and the Panauti home stay, a community based project, which helps local families in this village. Invaluable!!!

I went on a trip to India and Nepal in the summer of 2018 with an eclectic group of caring people of all different ages who I am now proud to call friends, many of them teachers like myself. Hands down it was the best traveling experience I've ever had, and this comes from an educator who has taught in 4 different countries and visited well over 50 countries. It was also the toughest traveling experience I've ever had in many ways. It kind of reminded me of the old army commercial, you know the one, "It's the toughest job you'll ever love." The heat and sheer density of people and cars presented some real challenges, but the payoff of what I learned and experienced far outweighed any negatives. It was definitely the toughest trip I ever loved. I can highly recommend GEEO!

I have done two trips to Africa with GEEO and was very happy with both of them. The trips are well planned with all the details thought out and well communicated before, during, and after the trip. Having the same local tour guide on the trip is very informative and interesting. The Executive Director, Jesse Weisz, is always available and has done many of the trips himself so he has firsthand experience and knowledge. The focus on how each trip can be potentially utilized in the classroom is very helpful. The benefits of using the trip for continuing education credits as well as being able to declare it as a tax write-off is great for teachers on a more fixed budget. It's also amazing to meet other teachers from all over the United States and to share stories/experiences in both teaching and life. I would highly recommend this travel group to educators and non-educators alike!

GEEO is absolutely wonderful! After taking my first trip with them to Ireland, I would recommend them to anyone and plan to take trips with GEEO in the future. The experience was absolutely fantastic - from the professional yet personal service provided by the GEEO team, to the tour itself with partner G-Adventures (phenomenal tour company, btw), and the connections made with other teachers on the trip made for an incredible experience. Also, the way the trip is set up, you are able to learn so much more about the area of travel than if you were to simply plan your own trip (and why hassle with all that planning when it's already done for you for at a great price?) When I returned to the classroom, I had fellow teachers ask me how I learned so much on a 10-day trip, and my students love hearing about the trip and are so much more engaged in lessons when I "sneak" in something to do with my Ireland GEEO trip. It's also an added bonus that you receive professional development credit - this is how PD for teachers should be all the time! And the connections you make with fellow teachers is priceless. Thank you GEEO for making travel for teachers not only possible, but an enriching experience!

I attended the Eastern European trip this summer, and it was fantastic. This makes my second trip with GEEO as I went to Costa Rica in 2012. The Eastern Europe trip was a very beautiful experience. The food was just great from Roast Boar, pheasant, rabbit, peirogies, beet soup, goulash, wiener schnitzel, stuffed cabbage, and polish sausage. The various cultures was very interesting from the new cities of Berlin and Warsaw (both were destroyed during WWII), to the old world charm of Prague and Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic to Vienna and finally to Budapest. The churches were just beautiful. The WWII history was incredible. We visited Auschwitz - Birkenau concentration/extermination camp, visited the Warsaw Uprising museum, the second largest synagogue in Europe in Budapest, and we visited an underground salt mine. I took river boat cruises on the Vlatava River in Prague and the Danube in Budapest. We floated down the upper reaches of the Vlatava River on rubber boats at Cesky Krumlov. The accommodations were just wonderful. GEEO's partner G-Adventures provided a guide for us throughout our journey. We also had paid guided tours in Warsaw ,Vienna, and Auschwitz/Birkenau. All transportation between our destinations were provided by G-Adventures. We used train, bus, and minivans. We went to out of the way restaurants that served the local cuisine. This was a 14-day trip, but it is not for those who do not like to walk. I probably walked at least 10 miles a day. If you want to see a lo of the cities we visited, you have to go out on your own or at least in a small group. Anyway, the GEEO program tours are very well done, and I would highly recommend these to anyone. I am planning another tour next summer to Morocco.

Go GEEO! I have travelled to South Africa, the Galapagos, Eastern Europe, Greece, and this summer to Italy with this group. I enjoy having someone else to the legwork on transportation and hotels. Although these would never be called "top of the line," hotels are clean and comfortable and the transportation workable. The leaders are highly capable and sometimes quite knowledgeable about the history and culture of places visited, and they can make arrangements for individuals who wish to visit specific sites. The orientation walks always provide an overview, yet there is time to explore on your own. It is really special when possible to visit schools and work with kids and teachers. I also enjoy travelling with educators of different content areas and ages. We can learn a lot from each other, and invariably, new friendships are formed.

My GEEO travel is my yearly indulgence and the fuel that gives me a renewed boost each year and something to look forward to at the end of each school year.

I really enjoyed traveling to Iceland with GEEO Travel Programs. The itinerary was outstanding and full of exciting and adventurous experiences. We saw many sights that a normal tourist may not see. We experienced how the Icelandic people live by staying in small inns in the farming and fishing towns, eating the local cuisine, and visiting local businesses and a school. GEEO provides professional and friendly service to travelers, and I would travel with the program again.

GEEO is an amazing nonprofit that strives to provide teachers with opportunities to travel and immerse themselves in other cultures so they can bring their experiences back to their students. I've traveled around Southern Africa with them in the past and went to Indonesia with them this summer. Both trips allowed me to explore new places and gave me access to schools where I have been able to make friends and professional connections. Even with a medical emergency that forced me to leave the group early, the GEEO team was there for me in every way. From walking me through contacting travel insurance to finding a hotel close to the hospital, to setting up alternative travel arrangements. Although GEEO is primarily for teachers, anyone can travel with them. I would recommend them to anyone wanting to travel in a group.

During the summer I went on GEEO's 7-day Best of Iceland tour in order to study how one of the world's most nature-diverse countries is dealing with the effects of climate change. The adventure was life-changing. Some highlights were: phenomenally gorgeous views, awesome guide, great travel companions, and a diverse itinerary with opportunities to whale-watch, hike on a glacier, walk around a volcano, visit a small schoolhouse dedicated to outdoors learning, observe puffins, and more. I'm planning to go on another GEEO trip next summer, but with so many to choose from, it may take a few months for me to settle on just one!

GEEO provides an exceptional opportunity for educators (and even their families or significant others) to travel the world, experience other cultures and expand their horizons (and sometimes to face our fears and have unexpected adventures-see photo below) and to do so without breaking the bank. Whenever I travel with this organization I know that my safety and security are of the utmost importance. I also know that the persons we entrust our lives to (the CEOs and local guides) are consummate professionals and very knowledgeable. They do not hesitate to do whatever they can to make sure our needs are well taken care of. I have recommended this program to many colleagues and will continue to do so at every opportunity. Thanks GEEO for always exceeding my expectations.

I was very impressed with GEEO, and would highly recommend this organization to any teacher who wants to truly experience another culture. My wife and I traveled to Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia this past summer, and were very happy with the guides, lodging, transportation, and wide variety of experiences. We also liked how we had the chance to choose our own activities. This really made the trip a combination of guided activities and choice, which allowed us to tailor the experience to our interests. We have not been fans of group travel in the past, but going with GEEO along with other like-minded teachers was wonderful. This was our first trip with GEEO, but it won't be our last.

I used GEEO for a recent trip to Greece. I am not drawn to group tour travel, but I felt that GEEO was unique in that we were made aware of options but not obligated to participate if we chose to explore on our own. I did appreciate that all of our travel transfers (except flights) and hotels were set up in advance! That made my trip stress-free and FUN! I traveled to India and Nepal on my first trip with GEEO. I am not much of a tour-type traveler, preferring to go my own way and travel off the beaten path. This tour, however, was perfect for me. Traveling with teachers who wanted to know India and Nepal meant that we had instant connections in our group. Nobody had unrealistic expectations and we all took each unexpected event as a new adventure and a chance to get to know the culture. Everyone in our group, including those who have been on many tours, agreed that our guide was amazing. He was not pushy, met everyone's needs, remained flexible and taught us anything we wanted to know about the places we visited. My overall experience with GEEO was outstanding, including the communication before, during and after the trip. All of my questions were answered promptly. I would highly recommend GEEO.

GEEO is an opportunity for educators on all levels to travel AND interact with educators from other countries. Any organization can plan your trip and get you a guide. GEEO does that as well as introduce you to the schools, teachers, and sometimes the students in other cultures (schedule permitting). For example, did you know that there is a Technical University in Tallinn, Estonia that accepts international students... for free course work... in English? And that it is cutting edge due to the patronage of more than a dozen major international sponsors.
Other trips have included visits to elementary schools, a special needs school, a private school, and even a teacher's college. It's interesting to see how others live and how their cultures function. But it's also fun to be able to interact with our counterparts in those countries.

This summer was the 6th trip taken with GEEO. This year it was Vietnam, which is now in my top three of favorite destinations. Traveling with teachers/professors, administrators, former/retired teachers, spouses of same, makes for a much more interesting and stimulating tour than traveling with a bunch of tourists. Getting out of "tourist mode" to visit schools, museums, cultural programs, and local families, provide for an experience that is more than just souvenirs and snapshots.

But just as important as the opportunities to visit and learn so that the experiences can be brought back and shared with your classroom, church group, civic group, or just a dinner with friends, is the knowing that you are supported every step of the way. Not just with trained and experienced tour leaders while in-country, but with GEEO itself at virtually any time of the day or night that a problem or question arises.

Don't know where we're going in 2015, but you can bet we're going somewhere... too much fun not to.

My co-teachers and I have always enjoyed teaching about the civilizations of the middle Americas and South America, so when the opportunity to travel to Peru on Spring Break came up, we were quick to investigate the program. It absolutely met, and exceeded expectations. Being able to learn about Peru's past, through the eyes of Peruvians who clearly love their homeland, was fabulous. The scenery was breathtaking, the food delicious, the ruins magnificent--what more could you ask for! We visited a school (which was heartwarming as well as heartbreaking), visited a weaving co-op, saw salt mines, and of course--Machu Picchu! What a marvel that was--pictures just don't do it justice.

This summer, I took my first GEEO adventure to Peru, where I had the most wonderful traveling experience I've had in years. I have trekked with many different organizations to many different areas of the world, but GEEO was the first experience where I felt as though I was truly engaging with local culture, as opposed to simply visiting a country. Through GEEO I visited local schools, helped on farms, studied history, culture, and language, and hiked the Incan Trail. I traveled with a group of educators from around the US, ranging from mid twenties to early sixties, and I learned from each and e very person I traveled with. GEEO handles everything to the tee, and you never worry about your travel plans once there. It was a truly amazing experience, and I'd encourage anyone with the opportunity to travel with GEEO to seize it!

I went on the India teacher trip during the winter of 2012-13, and it was amazing! Our guide (Manu) was super-knowledgeable and friendly, and he helped make this intimidating country accessible and understandable. We also got to plan our itinerary, and the cost was extremely affordable. Thanks to GEEO for introducing me to a totally new part of the world!

My first GEEO trip ignited my wanderlust! I completed the India/Nepal trip this summer and everything from lodging to guides to food were really a dream. They made a rather intimidating trip feel safe yet real in every way and I am left with a sense of awe and wonder of this great beautiful world. My fellow travelers became fast friends as well. The people who work for/with GEEO respond very quickly to any question you may have before the trip, I felt comforted by their speedy responses, honesty and knowledge. I can't wait for next summer!

I have just completed my sixth trip with GEEO, a wonderful non-profit for teachers traveling overseas. I have loved each adventure, met some wonderful people and have grown as a human being. I've shared first hand accounts of the places I've traveled with my students, introducing them to different cultures and customs, as well as seeing the things we all have in common. My photos have been worked into lesson plans expanding their vision of the world and the magic of exploring it.

GEEO is a wonderful service for teachers and their family and friends who want quality travel experiences with some service options. My wife is a high school AP World History teacher and I am a retired high school administrator who now works in teacher education at our state's land grant university. We have both traveled extensively, particularly my wife, and we have pretty high expectations. We traveled with GEEO last summer to Peru and had a wonderful experience. My review of last summer's trip is also posted on this site.

This summer we elected to join the second India/Nepal tour. We went to India four days early and Jesse from GEEO helped make arrangements for us to stay at the hotel where the tour members later met. We extended our tour for several days in Nepal and Jesse again helped with the arrangements there as well.

Our guide Abhi was outstanding, meeting varied needs of group members with cheerful, can do attitude. He made arrangements for optional activities which added so much to our experience. Two tour members became ill and he made arrangements to help them recover quickly.

Hotels met our expectations for budget travel in developing countries. The Hotel Bissau in a wing of a former raja's palace looked like a movie set, the game lodge at the Chitwan Nature Reserve was charming, and, with the exception of some lacking adequate hot water, met or exceeded expectations.

The ability to have laundry done inexpensively and quickly was a great asset traveling during the monsoon! Jesse's revised packing list is really accurate. Pack less and have the laundry done frequently; this will make you a happy traveler!

As soon as we got home, we went to the website and started talking about where to travel with GEEO next summer!

I went on a GEEO trip to the Galapagos, and loved it! The guide was fantastic, the activities were well-planned and incredibly memorable, and it was a great experience to travel with teachers from all over the country (I didn't know anyone before I went, which was totally fine!). I especially loved the school visits, which is something I will never forget.

I have been on not one...not two...but FIVE GEEO trips since 2008. And I'm not crazy. It's just a really great experience. Peru/Inca Trail, Tunisia, Panama, Southern Africa and India/Nepal. The great thing about GEEO is that they're constantly tweaking and reevaluating their tours to make sure that they are well-suited for teachers and a great learning experience. You get the best of both worlds: off-the-beaten-path travel, while still feeling safe, comfortable and well-informed. Our tour guides have always been phenomenal and I know the GEEO makes sure they hire the guides with the best ratings. I was most impressed in India this past summer, where I noticed that we got to experience the hectic, vibrant culture of the country, while still feeling comfortable in hotels and with AC on our transportation. At the same time, the GEEO staff prepared by being honest and candid about less-comfortable experiences such as the overnight train ride...but we were all so well-prepared that it was no sweat! I also have to say that teachers are excellent travel companions. We're curious and open-minded. We can tolerate bumps in the road. We have realistic expectations. We ask lots of questions and are eager to share our experiences with our students. If you're hesitant about traveling in a group, don't worry about GEEO...you'll find great travel buddies. Traveling with this organization is a great deal. You won't regret it. Next summer...I'm thinking Thailand and probably more!!

" My heart grew three sizes that day"...... It's a quote I stole from the Grinch, but I have no other way to express the fantastic life changing and eye opening adventure I was engaged in through GEEO, a non profit travel organization for teachers. GEEO gave me the opportunity to swim the Aegean, Black Sea, visit the geo thermal pools Cleopatra swam in. I was in awe when visiting the house Virgin Mary lived in, experienced the ancient city of Ephesus and had the opportunity to understand the workings of Islam visiting many breathtakingly beautiful Mosques. These small adventures were just part of the GEEO experience. I was able to share this adventure with like minded educators, and had the most wonderful knowledgeable, gracious guide who added to the ambiance of the adventure. I feel in love with Turkey and its gracious people. I am not a novice travel. I have traveled many interesting destinations but.... and its a big but....... I felt animportant member of this adventure . MY thoughts and ideas were listened to and the CEOs were responsive to any communication. I will travel with GEEO again........ you see,,,,,, GEEO ( and our guide) gave me a new pair of eyes to view the world

Morocco was my 2nd GEEO trip, the first being Peru. Both trips were fantastic. In both cases our guides were from the country and provided insight into the culture and were not only very willing to answer questions, but encouraged us to ask them too. In addition to seeing the typical tourist sights we saw how the people lived. We stayed at local hotels and ate at the local restaurants interacting with the locals. The trips were very well organized. Traveling with GEEO is a fantastic way to see and learn about other countries with like-minded travelers.

Our recent GEEO trip to South Africa (2013) was fabulous! Superior service all around. Jesse from Geeo and the G-Adventures staff were very helpful and knowledgeable, which made our first trip down there run smoothly. We LOVED the itinerary, which included learning a bit about the educational system, visiting several national parks, seeing several ecosystems (deserts to coastline), viewing incredible wildlife, and learning about the different cultures. There were also many optional activities along the way. We thought the trip was affordable, interesting and FUN! I have many great photos and stories to share with my students this year.

I travelled with GEEO last summer to South East Asia. Overall I had an excellent time. The guide provided tons of unique history and the places we visited were amazing. As an educator I used so many of my experiences and stories to teach in the classroom and it inspires students when they hear history teachers are out learning directly rather than just from a book. I am planning on traveling again with them this summer to Russia, Mongolia and China and will continue to travel with GEEO.

My wife and I, who are both high school social studies / history teachers, participated in the GEEO Southern Africa program during the summer of 2012. From sunset riverboat cruises with hippos, elephants, and kudu, to morning runs on the pristine beaches of Mozambique, this trip was a phenomenal experience. I really enjoyed the fact that we camped, helped cook food sourced from local markets, and were able to see quite a few schools as well. Even though I mostly teach American and European history, I use information and experiences from this trip all the time in my classroom. Our guide did a great job of making us comfortable and helping get the most out of our experience, and the trip gave me a new respect for the developing world.

If you are at all thinking about taking a trip with GEEO, sack up and do it. At first I was somewhat reluctant, but my wife convinced me, and I am so glad she did!

I traveled with GEEO on Southern Africa trip last summer and it was most certainly the highlight of my life! The trip ran smoothly down to the smallest detail. Our guide/cook and driver (this was a camping trip) went above and beyond to make the experience an educational and enjoyable one for all. We were on-the-go for 24 days and every day was new and exciting! As educators, the school and teacher college visits were inspiring, but in addition, we saw so much more and visited out-of-the-way places that would be very hard to arrange on your own. The small size of the group (16) was ideal! Jesse, GEEO's founder, is knowledgeable, personable, prompt at returning calls and makes you feel like you are the most important person he deals with! I will definitely travel with GEEO again for as many years as I am able!

My wife and I traveled with GEEO to Peru in the summer of 2012 and had an outstanding experience. My wife is a high school Advanced Placement World and European History teacher and I am a retired school administrator. We have helped organize student tours to Europe and my wife has traveled extensively as a Fulbright scholar and as recipient of other travel grants. We believe that we are experienced travelers that have an understanding of how challenging it is to meet the diverse needs of tourists with a variety of agendas and expectations. That said, we were so pleased with the professionalism of Jesse who answered all of our questions quickly and accurately. We wanted to arrive several days early and stay a day late, and Jesse was able to make the process of booking accommodations and airport transfers low cost and easy. Our tour guide was a genuine intellectual who had a deep understanding of Peru's unique history, culture, religion, and cuisine. He had recently earn gourmet guide status, and he found some wonderful restaurants to try in both Lima and in Cuzco. Plenty of free time to explore on your own or with others, as well as organized tours that were interesting and beneficial. Most accommodations exceeded our expectations for tourist-class travel and we will return to both the hotels in both Lima and Cuzco when we return to Peru in the future. We also enjoyed the small group size and found the camaraderie among group members impressive. Just last week we booked a tour with GEEO for next summer to travel to northern India and Nepal. Good value, good people, good times...

This was my first time to travel with Geeo. Always before I have traveled with high school students with People to People so have high expectations. I loved how this program offered flexibility and was focused on both educational activities and adventure. The Program was one of light emersion into the culture, so we did not stay in 5- star hotels but rather boutique type hotels where we could interact with many of the locals. Our transportation ranged from public and private bus, to boats, etc. Most of the program is ala carte so you can choose things you are interested in and not have to pay or spend time where you lack interest. This also allows people to be more in control of their own budget. Our guide admitted the most fun and interesting activity he did with us was to visit the local school, which he had never done on any other program in his many years of being a Central American guide. I really enjoyed traveling with other educators of all ages. Our group was very diverse and ranged in age from 23 to 67. I could not get over how flexible and cordial everyone was, given our diversity. I will definitely travel with Geeo again.

I have traveled with GEEO for the past 2 summers. Last summer i traveled on their Costa Rica trip and this past summer i was on the Peru Trip. Both trips were amazing! I've spoken with other people who've been to Costa Rica and/or Peru and they don't even come close to getting the experiences that GEEO provides. With GEEO, you are educated about the culture, history, people, food, and traditions of that country. I was also given the opportunity on certain days to choose between adventurous excursions. By having this array of experiences and visiting more than a few cities in these countries i've been able to bring alot of what i've learned back into my classroom and include in some of my lessons, giving my high school students are more global perspective. I have already booked my trip to Thailand with GEEO for this summer and i look forward to traveling with them until i've exhausted all of their trips.

I took the GEEO.org Costa Rica Adventure trip and it was an amazing experience. Everything was well thought out and the packing list we were given ensured i was well prepared. The hotels we stayed at were very nice, some with amazing views of the ocean, volcanos, etc. The transportation was very comfortable between cities and all guides were extremely courteous and accomodating. The tour guide that Geeo hired was excellent, very informative, and very entertaining. All but two of us in our group travelled alone, and i beleive everyone felt completely safe throughout the whole trip. Geeo also did a great job in dividing 2 Costa Rica groups along age lines so the group i went with had a lot in common and usually agreed on the adventures/excursions to participate in. I will definintely be participating in another Geeo.org adventure next summer and for many summers after that.

Over the past 3 summers, I have traveled to Tunisia, Costa Rica, Russia, Mongolia and China with GEEO. This organization has been amazing to work with. Being a teacher, I love to travel however many of my friends do not have the time to take off in the summer. With GEEO, even though I might be traveling by myself, I am with an amazing group of teachers from all across the country. I have met so many teachers from all across the country and even collaborated with some around the globe. Traveling has opened up my eyes to different cultures and how students that are entering US schools for the first time might feel. Everything is extremely organized and reasonably priced. I took the Egypt tour and had an awesome time. The tour guide was most accommodating making sure we had the best experience possible. We also felt safe the entire time; you would never have known they had just gone through a revolution. The sites were just amazing. There was such a variety of activities that kept us going the entire trip; riding camels and donkeys, going inside the pyramids, sailing down the Nile and then swimming in it! I was surprised how cold the water was. The temples and hieroglyphs were astounding, knowing they had been created, some up to 6,000 years ago, and then finding some paint still on them! We also learned so much of the country's past with an Egyptologist as our guide. I had such a great time that I’m trying to organize another trip with my students now.

My experience with GEEO's Costa Rica Adventure trip (16 days) was fantastic. Traveling with other teachers was enlightening and fun. As a life science teacher, I brought back hundreds of photos and stories I can use to infuse a personal touch to my teaching. GEEO took care of so many of the details that all I had to do was enjoy myself. Hotels were booked, meals planned (by our guide), and transportation arranged. I am very new to international travel, and this was the perfect introduction. I felt safe at all times. The variety of activities was vast - some travelers made choices like extreme hikes and rappelling, but others were able to enjoy the hotel pool or take a more serene butterfly garden tour. We also visited a local school and watched their talented dance team perform. We looked into their classrooms, as well. I was pleasantly surprised by our accommodations; I went in expecting a more rugged experience. Our guide was excellent. She consistently provided us with background information about the culture and history of the country and was also just very fun to be around. She even managed to rescue my laptop that I left at a hotel only reachable by boat! It magically reappeared in our origin city when we got back from our journey around the country. In sum, GEEO is a great way to travel. It is easy, versatile, informative, and most of all - tons of fun!

My wife and I are both educators (social studies & health) and after learning about the GEEO program we thought it would be both a different and interesting way to travel. We have long wanted to go to Peru and as outdoor enthusiasts, hike the Inca trail. The GEEO Peru trip was without a doubt, one of the coolest, most interesting and thoughtful trips we have ever taken. (I should note that we have long been independent travelers and had some reservations about a guided tour with a group. Having travelled throughout the United States, Central America and Europe independently, we had some reservations about South America. So as a guided trip, it made sense for us.)

The GEEO Peru trip was excellent. This is travelling at its finest. Learning about the culture of another people, exploring sights and ruins of another time and truly immersing oneself in another place. This trip is not designed for someone that wishes to take a traditional vacation, as it is jam-packed with activities and exploration. There is plenty of free time for one to explore on his or her own or relax, however the trip is geared toward immersing oneself in the culture and splendor of Peru.

The trip itself is created with several big experiences in mind. The Inca trail hike is in and of itself and completely awe-inspiring event. Top-notch guides, porters, food and camping make for 4 days of some of the most breath-taking natural wonders in the world. The time in/around the city of Cuzco is also a wonderful way to explore a bustling city nestled high in the Andes. The time spent in Ccaccaccollo, a small village about an hour or so from Cuzco was definitely the most interesting and rewarding part the trip for us. The idea of cultural immersion is something that appealed to us when we chose to take this trip and the time spent with our host family living and working, as the people do was an experience that we will not soon forget. Although challenging at times, this part of the trip was without a doubt the most meaningful allowing time for self-reflection. (Consider it a Peace Corps sampler if you will).

GEEO really thinks though the planning for the traveler. The guides that GAP assigns for GEEO are thoughtful, intelligent and well prepared, with an understanding that the group is educators looking to build upon the experience for their classroom. GEEO also was helpful in answering all of our questions in preparation before the trip and worked with us to help add on days before and after the planned GEEO trip (an extra day to explore the city of Lima and 4 days in Posadas Amazonas). On our flight home we already started discussing our next GEEO trip and would highly recommend this for anyone curious about Peru, even non-educators.

I've been on two excursions with GEEO, China and Egypt. Working with Jesse at GEEO has been wonderful. He gives personalized service, calls back rapidly with answers and smoothes things over. The adventures he assembles have met all expectations. He does his research and ensures that guides and tour companies are top-notched. And how can you beat the price?
These adventures give a person the true sense of a culture. You ride by train, boat or whatever; the guide always ensures your safety. If you're a teacher, you'd especially be interested as GEEO works in school visits when possible. That's a learning experience in itself.
So bravo. Look into GEEO. You can't go wrong!
