Mission: California bar foundation believes that a state as diverse as california needs a justice system led by advocates of all ethnicities and races. That's why we invest in bright, diverse scholars to ensure they have the opportunity to becometomorrowslegal changemakers. Our three main programs (pipeline grants, fellowships, and scholarships) allow us to truly deliver the original american valuejustice for all. In 2017, california bar foundation invested $1,315,228 in the next generation of lawyers, judges and activists.
Programs: We award pipeline grants to organizations that target high school and college-aged students from diverse backgrounds who are interested in pursuing a legal career. We also award fellowship grants to legal aid agencies to cover the cost of hiring law students and recent grads from diverse backgrounds. By supporting these organizations, we replace the cycle of inequality with a pipeline of young, bright, eager students with the diverse perspectives required to create a more just california. In 2017, california bar foundation made $518,180 in grants supporting diversity pipeline programs and access to justice initiatives across rural california.
we award scholarships to first and third year law students from diverse backgrounds at california law schools. By supporting the brightest change makers of tomorrow as they begin their pursuit of a legal career, we eliminate the roadblocks that exist between them and success. In 2017, california bar foundation distributed $376,630 in diversity scholarships to 60 deserving students.
